If you’re like most mamas I know, self care is probably left on the back burner for a little too long most of the time. You’re so busy caring for the other people in your life that you don’t leave enough time for you. Does this sound familiar at all? If so, then this article is for you. I’ve compiled a list of self care tips for the modern mama.

Schedule in time for yourself
This has definitely been said before but I’ll go ahead and say it again. Schedule. time. for. yourself. I’ve noticed that if I don’t have time set aside, then I wont make me time a priority. If you can, ask your husband/baby daddy, WHOEVER, if they can watch the kids! If you need to, hire your babysitter to watch your kids at their house so that you can just relax at home.
I’ll admit, I wish that I practiced meditation more often than I do. Guess I need to ~schedule in time for myself~ like I’m trying to tell y’all to do, lol. I took about 20 minutes last night to meditate since I wasn’t feeling well and just needed to recharge, and I’ve decided I’m going to really commit to doing it more often.
Hang out with friends/family
Even if you’re taking the littles with you, hang out with friends! Family! Other humans. If you’re a stay at home mom, especially, I know it can be pretty easy to get sucked into your house. You’ll feel so much better if you just get out to spend time with other people! To be honest, I don’t really like leaving my baby, so I’ve been hanging out with other moms and it’s fun for us and our babies. It’s good socialization for all of us!
Treat yo’ self
Girl, get that starbucks! Even if it’s something small, it’s a good idea to treat yourself every now and then. Go to lunch, or buy that shirt you’ve been eyeing at the mall for the past 3 months.
Fuel your Hobby
Make time for your hobbies! Love taking photographs? Go out and do it! Love yoga, but haven’t practiced in a while? Roll on out the yoga mat. Point is, you shouldn’t neglect your hobbies just because you’re a mom. Don’t forget about the things that you love.
Social media is great. It really is. It’s an amazing way to connect with likeminded people or see what your old high school friends are up to. But there has to be a limit. If I hop onto Instagram at night I find myself getting stressed out and thinking too much. I’ve made it a point to stay off of social media when I am trying to wind down at night. It’s really important to unplug every now and then. You don’t need to know what everyone else is doing or be connected ALL the time.
Write a gratitude list
List the things that you’re grateful for. Friends, family, a roof over your head, food on the table. When you make a gratitude list, the bad doesn’t seem as bad because you’re focusing on all the good stuff. The mind is a powerful thing, so feed it with positivity!
